I was reading this article and couldn't get over the image of a giant barbie doll just ripping a star to shreds.

James Webb continues to be an absolute game changer. This telescope is honestly extremely impressive.

Pioneer 11 was the first spacecraft to explore Saturn up close. But that was far from its only accomplishment.

Why not Mars
Some food for thought (and beautiful images of Mars), although I think the technical feasibility will make a big jump if SpaceX's Starship will successfully launch this year. Ultimately I agree that it makes little sense to send humans to space for research purposes. However, what might make sense is to do robotic resource extraction in the asteroid belt. Mars is kind of a natural stop on the way there AFAIK. If that turns out to be feasible, there will be probably some human piggy-backing on these robotic shuttles. I would guess we will see some elderly and relatively rich people drive this human exploration as some sort of extreme sport (due to low gravity it is doable by elderly persons) with no real expectation to come away unharmed (or necessarily return at all). But over time this will build up sufficient experience and infrastructure to make a Martian colony feasible and since the robotic shuttles going to the asteroid belt will be mostly empty on the way there, getting supplies to this Mars colony will be relatively cheap.

We’re a collective of individuals upset with the way social media has been traditionally governed. A severe lack of moderation has led to major platforms like Facebook to turn into political machinery focused on disinformation campaigns as a way to make profit off of users. Websites with ineffective moderation allow hate speech to proliferate and contribute to the erosion of minority rights and safe spaces. Our goal with Beehaw is to demonstrate and promote a healthier environment.

    Some thoughts on our philosophy:

Operating our server costs money. If you donate, you should know that 100% of the costs will go towards server time, licensing costs, and artwork. In the future if we need to hire developers or other labor, it would be sourced through the Open Collective Foundation, and it would be transparent to the community before any changes were made.

As a news aggregator and a social media outlet, with a focus on being a safe and accepting space, we strive to create a positive social impact. We will, also, help to connect underprivileged and minority individuals with education and civic participation by promoting a healthier online experience.
