  • One of the only things that would have made me vaguely proud of my service … except the entire time I was in was covered by Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, and my best friend in uniform Told rather than deploy with our unit. The part that makes me sad was he wasn’t comfortable enough with our peers, and he was absolutely right to be scared of them.

  • If I wasn’t being clear, putting “makerspace” on what we have locally is something of a bad joke to me, and I’m un-aware of any tool library beyond the fact that there are power-tools(and the use of 3D printers) available for checkout at our public libraries.

    Personally, I have a lathe, mill, 3D Printer, (incredibly light-duty-CNC) and a couple laser engraver setups, along with most woodworking tools, save a jointer. I’m closer to openning my own makerspace and/or tool-library than to going back to using the existing makerspace.

  • Tool libraries tend to be free or cheap. The makerspace near me runs north of $150/month for limitted access at, frankly, inconveniet hours.

    I get its geared towards people who don’t have the budgets or room, but having such(mostly the room, but for the price, I’m builing up a decent tool-set instead of paying fees), I would rather work around my neighbors’ sleeping schedules and the city noise ordnance than drive downtown to use someone else’s stuff, strictly during daylight hours.

  • There is a point at which we have not struggled enough to understand and empathise with our elders, sure, but almost 100% of the time, its the reverse that’s happened;

    They have not seen enough of our struggles and lack the capactity to understand or empathize with them as struggles at all. Their struggles, and later comfort, let’s be honest, have numbed them and fitted blinders to their judgement.

  • Where does this imply that I downvoted anything for the reasons you mentioned? There were maybe five or six comments prior to my own, and I downvoted all of them besides OPs(which I did upvote, tyvm - funny how that didn’t work out to you noticing).

    Less spammy than “trying to set the record straight” by correcting them all, nevermind that, as I stated, I don’t have a better solution anyways, but again, yes, I also up-voted the one-or-two comments that had anything to do with OPs problem, both clarifications by OP themselves.

    I’ve also up-voted other comments since, but there have been none talking about Ribbons and Tabs since, at least. Almost like what visibility my own comment got served its purpose.

    Things don’t have to be positive to work. Sometimes Loud Garbage can slow the buildup of even-more-useless-if-well-meaning garbage. Well-intentioned, useless, basically-un-true-in-context things only pass one of Socrates criteria, btw.
