US voters are never given the chance to vote for non-capitalist candidates. But this year we actually have a socialist in the running which is why I am voting for Claudia de la Cruz this year.

America is so different from when I was a child. Late stage capitalism is destroying our once great national like a malignant brain tumor and it is painful to watch

Instead of saying “good shape” which is a boring / potentially problematic answer, instead say “someone who is into (whatever sport or activity you enjoy)”. If you love to cycle or trail run then wanting someone who shares your interests is legitimate.

But when people ask for your preferences they want to know your actual preferences (the positives), not the dealbreakers.

For example, if I asked someone out to lunch and asked what kind of food do they prefer (their preference) then I don’t want to hear a list off all the foods they dislike.

It used to be that humanity’s most expensive projects were religious temples. Now it’s machines for scientific research.

I wish that were true, but the world spends far more on machines of war than we spend on science.

I am pretty sure working from home has proven to be more productive, so I think other factors are at play here. I worry that returning to the office might be the only way to keep the capitalists from trying to send our jobs over to poorer nations. If the tapeworms think the job needs to be done face to face then it is much hardet to send those jobs to India or S. America.

An easier approach would be to turn every apartment building into a housing co-op.

Capitalist for-profit housing simply should not exist.

I really think that Germany has too much power over EU. Does this make me racist with Germans?

Doesn’t Germany have the largest population of all EU countries? It makes sense that the country with the largest population and largest economy might also have more influence than lower population countries.

Everything the US does starts to make sense when you realize the US government is fully owned by lobbyists and wealthy donors. The Military Industrial Complex is a trillion dollar for-profit industry with the deepest pockets in the world. The capitalists who profit from it effectively own our country.

Blame marketing (propaganda.) Our government has given control of our information networks to corporations and corporations use those channels to blast us with consumerist propaganda 24/7. People are taught that the type of car they drive defines who they are as a person so they do what they were taught and they buy a giant tank of a vehicle so that people will see them as dependable, manly, successful, outdoorsy, etc.

Do German CS programs offer mentorship where professors will actually give you feedback on how your code could be improved? My US CS program offered nothing of the sort. As long as the program worked I got full credit, but now I am worried I might have developed bad practices / habits.

I hate to admit this… But, I am a CS grad from a good US university and my CS program never taught us how to use tools like valgrind either. Our projects were graded entirely based on if they worked and how neat the code looked at a glance.

I would agree that writing does nothing, they probably throw it away without even reading it, but talking to real people who actually want to improve things (like political assistants) can make a difference.

Most Americans want universal healthcare. The problem is that we have a broken and corrupt system where our politicians are bought and owned by the donor class and lobbyists

That is just their attempt at rationalization. The real reason is much simplier: money, money, money. Lobbyists, Super PACs and the donor class own our politicians. The rich pay for their political campaigns and bribe our politicians in some interesting and creative ways. For example, giving a politician a million directly is illegal, but if he writes a book and then you have the SuperPAC buy a million copies of the politicians book that is somehow legal.

Hutterites live like the early Christian church lived and they are effectively communists. They live on communal land, pool all their income together, share all their resources, etc. Engels called them proto communists.

I believe the key difference is humility vs arrogance. The humble approach to religion is to acknowledge that religion is purely hope and that no one knows what happens when we die because there is zero evidence of a soul, or God, or heaven. But the arrogant approach to religion claims to have exclusive knowledge without any proof. They turn religion into an abusive cult where they speak for God and everyone else must get in line without questioning (needing evidence.)
