My first ever bulid and I’m so excited! It’s not trivial to build a perfect keyboard just from parts you can order in Europe. This is one doesn’t look exactly how I imagined it but I love it anyway. If anyone is interested - it’s a Sofle Choc V3 kit from 42. Keebs.

The first few days were a bit hard but after just a week of using it I was able to beat my monkeytype high score. I’m still not really fluid in using it for programming and vim in general though.

Muscle memory needs some time, especially for symbol stuff. Don’t hesitate to tweak your mappings, I’ve made some changes at some point which made things a whole lot more workable. I started with Miryoku which was completely unsuitable for the PHP work I was doing back then, to mention something, and moving the number cluster to the right hand rather than left did miracles for my day to day work as well.

Last year i bought the Sofle V2 kit from 42 keebs. It’s a beautiful kit, and the service was great. It felt strange to find someone so well served based in europe. I’ll surely buy again from them!

Such a shame you dropped your keyboard and it broke in half!

Perhaps Santa could get you another one for Xmas?

I’ve also ordered a sofle choc v3 and started to use it, but I didn’t soldered the led or the screens yet. I’m also happy with my keyboard and the delivery was done properly !

As a minor point I’m not sure if the sources for the keyboard have been published yet (the fork in the repo haven’t been updated since a lot of time, and I didn’t found a v3 branch). This is not a problem for me but can be if you have foss vibes.

I’ve also removed the bottom plate because it make the keyboard sound… oddly when you press a key. I have to make some tests with plasstics screws instead of the metal ones given in the kit.

Otherwise, I’m very happy with the keyboard, comming from a typematrix I’ve been able to use it as soon it was flashed !
