I wonder if they eventually create a new Ghostbusters film without anyone from the originals. I know it’s the nostalgia hit we all love, well I do, but it’s a very slow passing of the torch.
I’m really mixed on these new films. I love the idea of maintaining a consistent cinematic tone for the sequels – that really helps establish them as being a part of the same universe. And it’s terrific to see new characters included in the mix, especially kids! But “Afterlife” was really kept from taking off by rehashing the old antagonist and leaning so hard on references. I was really interested in the first teaser for this film, putting the movie back in NYC, keeping the new cast AND giving it a new baddie. Great! But seeing this, ugh, more callbacks? I really hope they’re leaning heavily on these in the trailer purely as marketing and the whole sequel isn’t belabored by them.
