Bathroom renovation revealed this black staining in the ceiling lumber next to a vent pipe. Is it a problem? (The PVC pipe is new.)

I seriously suck at Lemmy. I deleted this post I guess?

I’m thinking it looks moldy, but I’m far from an expert.

Your post is not deleted, or at least my app (Connect for Android) still shows it to me. I would point out, however, that Google photos shows your real name, which you may not have intended.

Also if these are not load bearing beams ( they have been almost cut throughto allow the pipe going through), make the gap wider and put some isolation around the pipe. But only if the pipe is the case of the water problem

Ah I see now there is double thread 😶‍🌫️

Is this photo upside down then? If that is a vent pipe does it get cold in the winter and warm where the photo has been made? Then it would be condensing where the mold is. The black lines further on the beams seem like that it has become wet and dry periodically. The wood seem still hard? You can test it with pushing a screw driver in.
