• Makes more sense than what the oil investors are saying. They think Russia just wants to fuck over the west and that the west is too scared of conflict which makes this situation a “war that isn’t a war.” So Russia blew it up because they can get away with it. No joint investigation because it would prove Russia did it and force Scandinavia into war they don’t want or something.

I find it unlikely that the Russians have sabotaged the pipe, it was a massive bargaining chip. Russia have offered negotiations with Ukraine since day 1 of the war, and still wants to sell gas to Europe. Even if the rumours about selling gas to the south is true, that’s still years from now and gas export is a big part of the Russian economy.

The growing dismay in Germany towards the blockade could have pressured German politicians to buy gas again. Usually I ask myself “Who would benefit from this” but here I’m left with asking myself “Who would have lost the most if the pipes were re-opened?”

      • Yeah I agree. If the US goal is to prevent Eurasia from becoming intertwined, blowing up infrastructure that facilitates that seems right in line with US interests. It gives Eurasia fewer options, forces Europe to be stuck with the US.
