    Unlike CO2, where cumulative emissions are what matter, methane breaks down within a few years, so what matters is the rate of release. I’ve been relatively unconcerned about methane hydrates because converting those into gas lowers their temperature, slowing the process and limiting the rate at which it can proceed.
