    “The question for me,” Kimmel asks, “is are men suffering because women are succeeding, or are they suffering because they’ve inherited an ideology of masculinity that no longer works for them in the way that it did for their grandfathers?

    It’s the latter. Our society no longer rewards physical and social ability the way that it did. Men can’t make a living working on an assembly line or a farm. Or by working contacts and making friends.

    The pathway to a decent income is through study and academic success. From what I’ve seen, grade schools don’t reflect that. It’s too easy for a boy to be the class clown or focus on sports/gaming.

      Further context for those who may not read the article. Kimmel does not actually seem to believe that these are possibilities that should be given equal attention.
