Honestly… this isnt the first time this has happened either. Been a paying customer for a long time now, and occasionally I get these upgrade buttons, which I am hoping are just bugs, as otherwise it would be very weird as I cannot upgrade to anything higher than Unlimited.

I remember seeing something on Reddit a while back (well before the API fiasco) that this was a bug. Hopefully that is the case here as well.
How many times can they pretend this is a “bug”? They inject ads into my emails, regardless of whether I’m a paying user. And I can’t remove them from my entire account, I have to do it on a device-by-device basis…
These are two separate issues. I can easily imagine that this is a bug, and one with no impact whatsoever, so I can see why it hasn’t been addressed with an urgent hotfix. There is no business value in offering an already paying user to upgrade.

No, they’re the same issue. Both are annoying solicitations forced on paying users.
You could host your own email if it’s really that big of a headache that you have to tell a guy that “No it’s the same issue trust me bro”

Self-hosting on it’s own is ridiculously complicated enough. Self-hosting email is something even seasoned users don’t recommend. Despite being an open protocol, many businesses will refuse to work with you, and big players in the email hosting biz send you straight to the spam folder if you use a server they don’t recognize. Even with Proton, this happens with regularity. Businesses tell me I need to use Gmail or go fuck myself and they don’t want my money.
I dont have this problem, Sounds like a skill issue to me. Been doing it for over 3 years.

I’ve personally never had this issue (I’ve been a paid user for the last 2 years). Like another commenter said, as annoying as it is, it’s not a super urgent bug. It doesn’t break anything or affect the functionality so it will take longer to get a fix.

While it can be easily removed I’m more concerned about the possible marketing strategies from Proton.What are you concerned about? A new, more expensive plan appearing out of nowhere?

Its not a marketing strategy. Its just a bug. They will fix it eventually.
