This is a genuine question, as every time I have an argument about this with someone they bring a point so utterly stupid that it leaves me stumped…

    It works better in context, the quote is “don’t argue with idiots: they’ll drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.” I’ve always taken that as “experience at being an idiot”. The “yeah, well, muh wisdom/experience” copout is unrelated.
