    Maybe stretching the definition of “alternative” a bit, but I wanted to choose something from those tween years that I actually listened to then.

    Crowded House - Something So Strong (1986)

    I’d consider CH more just a pop band, but at least here in the States they weren’t quite mainstream aside from a couple singles (including this one).

    I remember being in middle school and scrawling “Crowded House” on my school notebook. My mother looked at it and said “You like THEM?” To this day, I’m not sure what she meant by it.
