I know this didn’t happen in the US, but it really shows the importance of unions and safe working conditions on a set.

I was sad that IATSE took such a bad deal with the studios, especially after the Rust accident.

They took a subpar deal in 2021 and avoided a strike. Many were hurting since productions were stopped due to the pandemic at the time and were just starting back up. I think they had a lot of power going into talks with the studios since the Rust accident had just happened, but the ones negotiating did not do enough to ensure safety. Long work hours have been an issue with IATSE crew, streaming rights, and I think the deal they took was not that great and barely passed.

The deal was only for 3 years and ratified on Nov. 15, 2021 with only 52% of the members voting yes.
