Guys

We have an XYZ DaVinci 1.0 Pro, connected by USB to a Windows 10 PC (latest updates etc.)

The drivers are all correctly installed (both cameras show up in device manager, the printer shows up in device manager as both a printer and a USB-COM3 device).

The printer has Firmware 1.2.3 installed (as recommended by XYZ… not sure if that’s a good thing)

  • XYZ Printing does not detect the printer as online;
  • Cura does not detect the printer as online;
  • Pronterface does not detect the printer as online;
  • In a massive turn-up for the books… Microsoft 3d Builder does see the printer on line and will start a print.

In device manager the com port seems to be set at 9600,8,n,1. Changing this to (say) 115200 breaks printing in 3d Builder. Changing Pronterface to use 9600 baud makes no difference to connecting to the printer.

I have changed the USB lead, tried different ports on the PC yadda yadda yadda but no change at all - only Microsoft 3d Builder will see the printer online and print.

Anyone got any idea at all why everything except Microsoft 3d Builder can’t see the printer?

    Have you tried running XYZ Printing, et. al. as an administrator? Right-click on the icon and “Run as Administrator”. The applications may be having trouble accessing the COM port.

      Nope - that’s the one thing I didn’t do (because 3D maker worked with out it)

        Tried that - no difference.

        Tried setting com port and baud rate in Cura environment for USB Printing NG plug in. No joy (though monitor in Cura stops complaining the printer is offline, it won’t do things like pre-heat the head)

        Real head scratcher.

    Hey, I had issues with usb connection with a totally different printer and octoprint, but with similar symptoms.

    In that case the issue was the 5V on the USB connector that caused the problem.

    Try a little piece of electric tape to mask the 5V band on the USB-B connector.

    Problem solved - nope, let’s be honest worked around.

    You know that saying in Technology & Design “never update the software” with respect to CNC machines etc.?

    well it seems if I install the latest and greatest from XYZ the printer is not recognised. If I keep the original versions everything works (whatever version of windows is installed). So now I have to work out a way of stopping the auto-update…
