I went searching for this and the only thing I could find were more people looking for a community similar to r/twoxchromosomes so I created it. I’m not a mod or a creator of the original subreddit, if any of those people find this and would like to join as a mod, absolutely let me know.

Thank you!! I’ve never been very active in this kind of social media, but TwoXChromosomes was one of my favorite subreddits. So glad to see that energy brought over here :)

I understand that the reddit one was created in a different time, but I feel like in 2023 there’s no excuse for making the name of your general womens’ forum overtly transphobic

Can we rename communities? We may want to do the work now since it is new. Any ideas for names? I am male identifying so I shouldn’t get a vote.

I agree, "it’s inclusive! Just not the name " it makes it hard for me to share posts from the sub with others. But it’s always been one of the subs I connect with most. But like me many will come here looking. My vote is that we create a new sub with an inclusive name and direct everyone who comes here looking for the original group to the new place

Thank you so much for creating this!! I would mod if I had the time, but I’m currently in school and working full time. I mod a local (my city) Facebook group so I have some experience, and would definitely consider it in the future.

Welcome, everyone! Let’s make this something special!

I think it all depends on your instance. If I go on the website, not app of my instance, I can go up to the menu at the top and below “create post” there’s an option for “create a community.” I know some instances don’t allow users to create their own, you have to contact your instance admin to create it for you and appoint you as a mod.

The mods of reddit/r/twoxchromosomes knew that their sub name was gender essentialist from a month after they created a “women’s” sub with chromosomes in the name. They had every opportunity to do the right thing and migrate their community to a different /r/. But they didn’t, they continued to promote a sub built on transphobia until it was a default sub putting gender essentialism in front of every single new user on the site.

The migration to Lemmy is the perfect time to undo the wrongs of the past. It’s a brand new community and we have a chance to do some good. We’re not beholden to the names of the past.

Mods: Please please please PLEASE lock this community, delete all posts, and pin a redirect to a community with a better name. Why not /c/women or /c/genderdiversity? There are a hundred names better than this one. What’s the justification for the twoxchromosomes name

The name XX was chosen just because it illustrates the essence of this subreddit and its target Redditors–girly and geeky, and subtly awesome. (You can look here and here to see how the name came about.)

Really? We’re going to associate girliness with a genotype? We’re going to brag about being cisgender? There is no excuse for platforming these ideas. Now is the time to do better.
