Hi recently I’m seeing news about android auto all over the place like:

  • Grapheneos recently integrated android auto.
  • Microsoft Teams is being developed for Android auto.
  • Google updating android auto with chrome support.

What has happened in android auto now that there are some companies focusing on it?

Most car manufacturers are giving up on their shitty in-house UI’s in favor of Android Auto and Car play because that’s what customers actually want. There is momentum and companies love taking advantage of it.

CES is also happening right now so there are a lot of car announcements.

That’s not true. Android Auto and Car play have been around for a long time but most OEMs refuse to integrate them or are moving away from them so that they can charge their customers for redundant subscriptions they get on their phones for free.

Wait GrapheneOS supports Android Auto now? That’s a game changer if true as it’s the only thing holding me back.

It’s because these apps that work in Android Auto also work in Android Automotive, which is Google’s in-car OS that uses similar app design.
