I’ve tried to reply to some comments when this pops up on the screen. Didn’t keep a tab on the first few instances but lately it has been on a comment posted from lemmy.ml. Is it because the said instances have been de-federated?

    If this is liftoff, this error is based on how the app handles the “All” timeline. If not otherwise set, Liftoff checks the instance you’re logged in to and the preset one. So you can’t interact with posts received from the latter.
    You either remove the other instance in the settings or atleast change your standard timeline to all/local/subscribed@<your instance>.
