I got numerous engineer friends fighting to get a job at Raytheon, Lockhead Martin, Boeing, and other defense companies. It feels like such a shame that our greatest minds are being used to kill people. I fucking hate it. Big Tech scraping bright computer science people to get people addicted and scrape data. I hate society. Idk I just needed to get this off my chest.

Edit: it bothers me more because they don’t really think about it. They just kinda want to work on cool planes and stuff and think that if the U.S isn’t going to do it then another country will.

It especially rankles me when individuals with career options opt to labor for such an organization. I get that numerous people are constrained by the capitalist system and must work within it, their opportunities limited. Thus, I won’t censure the janitor at Raytheon for his employment there. Yet, when one has a choice, ethical considerations come into play.

Man it just sucks how we could use all these bright minds for good but we use them for warfare. Like imagine if we took all those people and made them work at NASA. We would be inventing new stuff every week.

Indeed, same with people working for companies like Meta where the best and brightest minds are devoted to figuring out how to make the most invasive tracking and shove ads in people’s eyeballs. Turns out that capitalism doesn’t allocate resources efficiently in a way that actually provides values to society.
