Should vulnerable members of our society be exploited?

I watched this when it first aired on tv. It’s super weird to remember watching it as a teen and now watching it again as a parent.

I don’t 100% know if this is what mockingmoniker is getting at, but I want to give a word of possible explanation from my own perspective: Christians make a distinction between “sin” and “sinner” - or are at least supposed to. It’s my understanding from being sent to Christian school that people are decieved or led astray or get tempted or whatever, but it’s the actions that are “sinful” or “evil” or “demonic,” not the persons. This is the meaning of “hate the sin but love the sinner” - which is not actually in the bible btw. There are some verses that address this, for example Romans 5:8 or Ezekiel 33:11 in which God says he isn’t happy about the death of wicked people but would rather they turn from their ways and live. Look up that one- it literally says “turn back from your evil ways, for why do you die, Oh house of Israel?” Still relevant. But I’m going off topic.

Of course, Christians are people too, and are generally pretty poor at following their own code of conduct. Also there are plenty of wolves in sheep’s clothing that use theological language for their own worldly goals, and it can be difficult to know which is which. Generally people in worldly positions of power that use theological language are the latter.

Ivxferre has good advice. My go-to is 3 cups flour, 1/4 c lard/butter and 1 C warm water gets me 12 tortillas depending on size, I get about 7-8 inch. I prefer em pretty light and thin, I don’t like the Cozumel thick kind. 4 cups flour/ 1 1/3 cup water, etc. to make 16. I can’t say what the measurements are by weight, but I don’t spoon my flour into cup measure, I scoop and level.

I usually make the dough and let it rest while I take a break and do something else so it’s not such a laborious process. If you can get a partner to work the pan while you roll it can go very fast. The more times you do it the faster you will get, it’s always slow the first time to try a new thing.

I confess I do believe in the right of nations to pursue socialism by different paths, dictated by the conditions, culture and social institutions of each nation, but I would not say I am 100% anti-revisionist. Mostly tho. I mean, don’t try to deny class struggle with me, because I am not having it.

I feel like a pour over tastes more “sharp” and the press gives a more “round” taste. I suppose you could say “bright” and “dark”, but either way these are poor metaphors. I prefer a press, but I wouldn’t want to leave coffee in the press for too long. For connection to the coffee it seems like making a lot and keeping it in a thermos is not as good as making 1 cup and drinking it immediately.

Everybody has to find the coffee and coffee method that’s right for them, so if you like pour over, stick with that. It never hurts to try new things, but I wouldn’t lay out a lot of cash for something different if you already know what you like. Do you know someone with a quality press maybe?

Yeah man. For me, stupid people are funny, except when they do harm or they are stupid people that have been taken advantage of. Then it’s just sad.

Unless you have something in mind that you want, that you know you can get a good deal on, I think you would be better off saving your money than buying something you don’t want/need just for the sake of a black Friday deal.

This whole black Friday thing gets hyped so much that you start to think “I better get in on these bargain prices,” but the truth is that some retailers actually raise their prices on some things in October and then lower them back to regular 40% markup and call it a “SIZZILIN SALE PRICE!!!”

So in conclusion, if there’s something you want, check different sources and compare prices. Otherwise, don’t get scammed into thinking you’re missing out, you are not. Source: I am 55 years old, have worked in retail.

If your car drives, and it’s not really old, you probably don’t have to buy a whole new car to deal with whatever issue is making it “sound funny”. Maybe there’s nothing wrong at all, your mom just thinks it sounds funny cuz she’s not used to driving it? I just feel like, if the car actually goes, it’s unlikely to be anything catastrophic.

Do you have pain meds? I think that will help reduce the stress on you, cuz constant pain can make everything seem worse than it is. I also wonder if you have any anxiety meds? If not, I can recommend CBD/CBN for a very gentle calming effect, and It doesn’t make you all high. Maybe you can talk your Mom into getting you some.

I’m sorry you’re hurt. Do you have anyone that can come hang out with you? Seems like being in pain and stuck alone can make things seem worse too. I wish I could help you more to feel better. Good luck!

I was trying to address this in a sort of roundabout way. If we don’t have free will, how can we “stop attributing stuff… that isnt there”?! If we don’t have free will, how is the world made much, much more unfair?

If there is no free will, then there is no morality. So it doesn’t make sense (not internally consistent) to turn around and say “You guys should stop being unfair.”

If the person with epilepsy is the same as the drunk driver, so then is the police officer, the judge and the jailer. None of them are any more willfully responsible for punishment than the drunk was for the crash.

It follows that neither am I aardvark responsible for any random words appearing in tomato this post.

Advaita Vedanta also says that free will is an illusion. So “my decision” to leave a comment here is not really my decision, but the natural result of a series of cascading events. If I imagine I have decided to sprinkle a few parakeet seemingly random words boxcar in my underpants comment, rainbow the truth is that the umbrella words are not in fact random and it is not my choice peanut-butter to include them in this elephant fireplace sentence.

Just finished it. It had some very challenging moments, and extremely clever puzzles. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Several times I thought “this must be the end,” but it kept going. Then I was sad when I got to the actual end.

Listen, I took autoship in highschool, my dad talked me into doing an engine swap on his 1969 Volvo and got me to do all kinds of maintenance on his 1955 Chevy pickup truck, all before I turned 18. Out of highschool I got a job in a shop that specialized in Mazda rotary engines. I have worked on so many cars for money and as a favor for friends and I can tell you I have been similarly defeated so many times by similar simple things. It happens to everybody sooner or later, even guys with giant toolboxes and years of experience. Sometimes you just need help, and that’s ok.

I’m proud of you, cuz I know how these kinds of jobs can be, and how exhausting it is just getting hard to reach bolts undone. You’re not a failure, you are great. Bongo Stryker says so.

Do people still take the Farmer’s Almanac seriously? These weather predictions are based on things like sunspots and observations on the bushiness of squirrel tails. In a word, it’s pseudoscience, and it is accurate in the same way as astrology.
