  • If you have a passport or drivers license that says “M” and you are in a dress and full face of makeup, are you physically safe?

I have a drivers license that says “M” and have a beard. This EO (and state law) say that it should have an “F.” When I was a broke college student, and it did say “F” but I had a beard, I could barely find work scrubbing shit off bleachers with face tattooed ex cons. I had to do sex work. If I get to that point again I will just kill myself. And I did just lose my job lol.

Background checks still occasionally fuck me - I had a job let me work there for a week and then they tried not to pay me because the background check revealed I was trans. I spent months fighting for money, because I was ducking desperate, because I was going through a divorce where I was getting fucked for being a crazy tranny there too.

Documentation fucking matters. This is how they are trying to kill us.

  • Big part I think depends on the quality of the shrooms themselves. When I grew my own, 1-2 g of dried was about equivalent to a decent 50 mg THC edible experience, with minor visual enhancements. 3-4 g is where I started to get some of those more fun things, experimenting with approaching ego death.

I tend to have very high tolerance for psychedelics though. Half of my lemmy comments have been made under the influence of 100 mg + THC.

  • I believe in viewing as much propaganda as possible, because it helps you better see and understand it. No country is acting in our self-interest as a species right now. It is interesting what different people are allowed to say/not say on different apps. (My goal for this year is to learn enough Turkish to get on the Turkish web and better understand the weird cult that doesn’t get along with Erdoğan - they run lots of charter schools in the US for some reason.)

The fediverse is nice, but is never going to be mainstream. It’s not designed to be addicting, because that isn’t its purpose. Maybe it is for the best to have these small holdouts where you can have something analogous to the early internet - where saying “suicide” or “kill” or talking about sensitive topics doesn’t mean your post will never be seen. These small spaces won’t be bought and destroyed.

  • I guess normal people love the algorithm

The TikTok algorithm was/is (guess it’s back up, but not going back after the Trump messaging) really good about picking smaller niche videos. I had never really thought to get into spinning my own wool until I saw people working with dog hair brushes to card. Lots of recycled/punk/broke bitch crafts, which is a good way to glue me to the phone.

I think algorithms can be good, there just isn’t much incentive to make them good. TikTok has really good discovery features, but it also wants to show you Family Guy clips next to video game footage so that you’ll shut your mind off and buy something.

  • If you want to keep TikToking or whatever it is people do on that platform, you should join the closest Western version, preferably owned by a multi-billionaire in the US. Their platforms will be protected no matter how much data is stolen and how much privacy is violated. The goal wasn’t to stop the communist Chinese government, but ensure that Americans maintain a stranglehold over these vices so that they can benefit from them. People are being used and just don’t care.

I think this shows a misunderstanding. A lot of the switch to Red Note is conscious of this. That’s why people deliberately chose to go to a Chinese app, knowing that the goal of the TikTok ban never had anything to do with its stated intentions. People on TikTok have been laughing at “Senator, I’m Singaporean” for months.

It’s a large enough movement that the app has added a translate feature and English/Spanish interfaces. It’s actually somewhat annoying to some of the Chinese folks there, and as someone who wants some language immersion, it’s hard to find comment sections without a lot of English conversation.

Everyone knows that US corps Hoover up as much data as they can get from us, so it’s hard to care about data getting to the Chinese government - it’s not like Meta would say no to selling them data. With Cambridge Analytica and the surveillance states building up in the south to make sure women don’t cross state lines for an abortion, the CCP knowing that I’m trans and have lots of gay sex is much less dangerous than my state government knowing that.
