  • Eh.

Physics does some weird shit based on frame of reference. Until something goes faster than the speed of light, that’s the limit. If it goes back to nothing moving faster than light, it’s a limit again. But that time I’m between… Maybe?

Like, we’re talking about something that has a coinflips chance of being a wave or particle each time we look at it. And if no one’s watching, it’s somehow both. Similarly the speed of light might just be the equivalent of draw distance. And just like Rick glitched out that weird alien simulation, maybe we can glitch the actual universe so that by somethings frame of reference, it’s moving faster than light. Maybe light will just speed up and the current speed of light is really because of some random thing trucking along at that speed and maybe someday it changes?

Maybe because light is both a wave and a particle, it’s just setting its own standard for the wave speed by the particle speed.

It’s stupid to assume there’s more weird shit we haven’t noticed yet.

And that’s not even getting into the grey areas around FTL where you get between two points faster than light could, but you didn’t travel the same distance between points.

Like, once physics gets complicated, if you think you understand it, it just means you dont.

The smartest physicist currently alive almost constantly tells people about how much he doesn’t know, and that guy has pretty much all of human knowledge regarding math (not just physics) in his head.

He freaking came up with the ideas for MC Escher’s most famous drawing (the stairs and hand drawing hand) when he was a bored teenager.

If Roger Penrose says he doesn’t understand it none of us do.

  • Nope, McTurtle got rich along the way. But his lifelong goal has been packing the courts.

He is literally salivating like he just walked into a salad bar at the 42 vacancies Biden is about to hand over.

Pelosi doesn’t give a shit about the Dem platform or helping people. She wants America to stay in the early 90s, that used to be enough to be considered somewhat progressive.

But the early 90s were 30 years ago. Imagine calling someone in the early 90s progressive because they wanted America to go back to pre civil rights movement.

    That’s the same time frame.

The right move was forming a serious left third party decades ago. We’d have a right, center, and left party and nothing would get done without some compromise between the wings, likely leading to a more fluid party structure.

We’d never see this shit where a handful of republican extremists sabotage everything no matter who has the majority.

  • we’re surrounded by unique evil in so many directions

    No, we’re not.

    It’s one issue: unregulated capitalism.

And I know there are technically regulations, but they’re written by lobbyists and not even read by politicians anymore.

What’s worse is the deregulation of campaign finance law. In a similar fashion it would be illegal for me to donate $3,000 to Kamala directly.

But Elon Musk gave $275,000,000 to trump and that’s cool because it was thru a PAC.

Similarly I could have donated the max to Kamala, and then used the “victory fund” to use the max donation to each of the 50 state parties, but instead of going to them, it would first go to the DNC and that’s a literal black hole of accounting because it’s a private organization.

We don’t know how 2020 or 2024 went, but in 2016 this was the result of the victory fund:

Right around the time of the convention, the leaked emails revealed Hillary’s campaign was grabbing money from the state parties for its own purposes, leaving the states with very little to support down-ballot races. A Politico story published on May 2, 2016, described the big fund-raising vehicle she had launched through the states the summer before, quoting a vow she had made to rebuild “the party from the ground up … when our state parties are strong, we win. That’s what will happen.”

Yet the states kept less than half of 1 percent of the $82 million they had amassed from the extravagant fund-raisers Hillary’s campaign was holding, just as Gary had described to me when he and I talked in August. When the Politico story described this arrangement as “essentially … money laundering” for the Clinton campaign, Hillary’s people were outraged at being accused of doing something shady. Bernie’s people were angry for their own reasons, saying this was part of a calculated strategy to throw the nomination to Hillary.

With Jaimie Harrison resigning, I hope someone with the integrity to open the books up gets DNC chair.

A shit ton of people didn’t vote because they believe both parties are corrupt. The best way to get their votes is to root out the corruption we already know has been there since 2015.

As for the killer, John Fetterman had the choicest words: He’s “going to die in prison,” the peerless Pennsylvania senator told HuffPost. “Congratulations if you want to celebrate that.”

Daily reminder that just because someone has a D by their name doesn’t mean they’re on the right side. Even if they wear hoodies.

“Blue no matter who” just winds up with corrupt assholes who will take bribes from anyone and actively work against the wishes of their constituents. You can’t claim to be better/smarter than republican voters and vote like that.

Their mere existence is used as a reason to not bring progressive legislation up for a vote even when the party has the numbers. Which depresses turnout nationwide.

  • Still missing the entire point:

Democrats are missing something that is arguably a prerequisite for ideological messaging to have any effect whatsoever: a media apparatus that can get these messages in front of swing voters.

We only need a propagand machine to trick people.

The whole country just united over a dude killing a CEO. We’d unite over actual progressive policy too.

Propaganda machines are a replacement to manufacturer interest, we can just run on a platform that’s already interesting to voters.

Like, this author is fucking Hung up on print newspapers for some reason, and wants the party to literally make a propaganda machine…

Democratic funders could set up new local papers in strategic counties, or buy up some of the remaining husks and staff them up. I would just put together a bog-standard paper with some liberal editorials, but one could make it tabloid-y or explicitly partisan to taste

It’s fucking insane. No one should be listening to this person for any reason.

Anyone that claims newspaper are important for elections really…

  • How Democrats used their vast resources has come under particular scrutiny after Harris’ presidential campaign raised — and spent — a stunning $1.4 billion in 107 days. The pace rattled supporters, donors and even some on the campaign, who complained of lavish spending on celebrities and ongoing appeals for money even after Harris lost the election.

The only reason why we found out about 2015 shenanigans was neoliberals tucking tail after trump won so Donna Brazile had a chance to see the books.

This is a huge chance to pry the party out of neoliberal hands, because Jamie Harrison is acting like most of Biden’s picks and resigning before things get difficult.

But there is zero fucking chance $1,700,000,000 was raised and spent in 107 days and there wasn’t any grifting going on. The purpose of Kamala’s campaign wasn’t to win an election, it was to churn a bunch of money so people could take their slices.

We can’t afford to do it a fourth time in a row.

Winning the election needs to be the priority of the party.

  • which would necessitate oil and gas companies intentionally working in a way that isn’t about maximizing profit.

No. I’m saying because it’s slightly more profitable they pipe it all over, somehow you took the opposite message?

I assumed we didn’t need to talk about why pipelines are bad, did I overestimate?

    Like…

Oil pipeline protests have been pretty big news for decades now, I thought everyone commenting on an article about gas pipelines was up to speed.

    Quick edit:

    Deja Vue…

We had another conversation a week ago where I went over the basics of why oil pipelines are bad, and nothing I explained seemed to have stuck. It was even about Canada/US pipelines too.

Someone else may be able to explain it differently, but I’m not gonna be able to help.
