Many instances have already defederated lots of stuff. If you feel strongly about that shouldn’t you migrate there over asking other instances to do the same thing? Seems like if he wanted to he would have here by now.

I assumed that the discussion on a post on a 3rd party server would be served by the 3rd party and I would still see comments from beehaw users on that posts.

I’ve never really thought about how it’s done on the older generation parts. On the newest it’s etched by laser. We had a generation where it was stick on barcode and that was the worst.

At my company that code would mean 2019 week 1 (first week of jan). We also do a shift number as a 3rd part.

It’s also common for the second number to be months.

There is a fork of NewPipe which supports sponsorblock. That clips out the segments your talking about. Mainline NewPipe won’t support that as an ethical stance so only in the fork.

I think the real answer has to be that he gave them real numbers he expected them to pay. They all said wtf no but he promised similar numbers to his investors from the official channels.

Quantumbadger already put out his update. Summary is that he’s exempt from the new costs but we’re losing distribution channels which need source (ie fdroid repo) so he doesn’t publish his keys.

That’s an other dev (quantumbadger) I would expect to be honest with his community. He’d been pretty vocal in earlier updates that he wasn’t going to be able to pay them at any price since his app is FOSS and distributed as source.

Curious what his next update will say.
