I’m indifferent to their suffering, not because of their political opinions, but they aren’t the frogs slowly heated in a pot, they’re the ones who threw themselves on the hot skillet even as they felt the heat to know the danger beforehand.

I pity the homeless, who can’t find safety in this heat, not the ones who had the means to avoid it and succumbed to it when they knew the danger

How the fuck is calling for suffering of someone else upvoted? You people got so far into tribalism bullshit you don’t see them as actual humans anymore

I can speak for the OP but schadenfreude ia a thing, that aside speaking for mysel, I’m certinaly indifferent as I would be if a drunk driver crashed and complained about the car repairs, the inconvenience of not having a vehicle and the sore ribs. You were fucking drunk driving you shitty human being!

I’m also mindful of Karl Poppers “Tolerance of Intolerance,” if you tolerate these shit stains, you end up with civilisations collapse and an unlivable world. So while not agreeing with the person you responded to I can certinaly understand it. Theyre doing very real damage to other humans; women, minorities etc and intent on destroying the biosphere. They are literally and proudly the bad guys.

No, this isn’t “car driver crashes into a tree, complains about repairs”. This is “people with a different political opinion are suffering, yaaaaaay!”

No. Again, this has nothing to do with tolerance. This is 100% tribalism and “lesser man” philosophy. You can disagree with someone and not be celebrating when they get heatstroke, it’s basic empathy

This isn’t a “different political opinion”. Climate change isn’t an opinion, period. A different political opinion is supposed to mean a different policy solution to a specific problem, not wholesale ignoring reality.

Ah yes “they deserved it, good” = Shadenfreude, not totally being an asshole without empathy. Time to go to a local oncology center and shadefreude conservatives with cancer, huh?

This is “people with a different political opinion are suffering, yaaaaaay!”

To be fair, the issue isn’t that they have “a different political opinion”, the issue is that they will cause insane amounts of suffering and deaths down the line if they get their way. Climate change will kill millions of people, and trump and his supporters seek to make it even worse for short term political gain (aside from the attempts to install an authoritarian dictatorship and all that stuff).

That being said, I’m also not happy when indoctrinated people suffer, regardless of their murderous ideologies. Imo it’s more of a cultural issue, and nobody has any direct control over the culture/social environment that they grow up in.

So the only thing stopping you from celebrating the suffering of other people is how closely their political opinions are to yours, and if you feel they’ve acted with negligence in their political support?

Can you explain how this is not a tribal vendetta?

These people are causing their own suffering and contributing to that of many many others. Your instinct to boil this down to “political opinions” shows your own bias - since you can’t defend the position itself you must reduce it to “just an opinion”. Anthropogenic climate change is not a political opinion, it’s a real thing that is happening in reality.

Read the second paragraph again. I explicitly said that I’m not happy about their suffering, regardless of their political opinions.

It’s just disingenuous to claim that people merely take issue with their opinions when it’s the actions that are the real problem, although that still doesn’t justify schadenfreude.

Getting a small satisfaction from people getting heat stroke due to their own horrible choices is not the same as wanting to kill all queer, immigrant, and brown people but nice try.

Ah yes, the “small tiny tiny satisfaction” and the other side is “wanting to kill everybody”. Don’t you see how hypocritical this is? It’s literally tribalism to the max, excusing “your own” side and making a fuss about “the others”.

I don’t understand what happened with the left. Right wingers exercise their beliefs on the edge of sanity and it’s a proper place to suggest a new perspective that doesn’t contradict reality that much.

People on the left actively propose interesting ideas (eg: green new deal) — but the press is owned by a bunch of billionaires, which means that it actively supports right-wing positions. As a result, what you hear about is stories about how they’re secretly communist efforts, rather than any kind of evaluation of how those policy changes would affect people.
