Frog’s Theme slaps. Honestly, the whole soundtrack for this game is incredible.
I agree totally. So many things put Chrono Trigger way up the list for me, but the soundtrack is really something special. 8-Bit Music Theory has a really great video about Mitsuda’s use of non-functional harmony for any other music nerds out there.
And the whole OST is available on Spotify too.
Why is it Chrono Trigger? Because it’s Final Fantasy VI. :P
Surprised no one has mentioned Xenogears, the story is amazingly deep. So yeah not CT but gears is ONE OF the greatest JRPGs of all time
I haven’t played this yet but it’s on my backlog, and I’ve been itching to play a JRPG. What game(s) would you compare it to?

For me it’s Terranigma. That soundtrack alone is a masterpiece.
I know this makes me sound basic but I think Final Fantasy VII is the best, and that’s coming from someone who doesn’t have nostalgia for it. I played it for the first time a couple years ago and I loved it. I think it has aged incredibly well, particularly because of the materia system and the music.
Nah OG Final Fantasy, or Dragon Warrior.
