Welcome to c/tidalpunk, a community dedicated to imagining and building a better future for our oceans and marine environments!

Tidalpunk is a sub-genre of Solarpunk, one which applies the themes of sustainable technology, conservation, accessibility, and community action to our global oceans and other waters.

Oceans are a crucial part of our planet’s health, and so their preservation is crucial for our planet’s future wellbeing. This is a space to celebrate efforts to protect and support marine systems, discuss emerging sustainable aquatic tech, share new oceanic discoveries, and post ideas about what a tidalpunk future may look like.

Nice idea for a community! I would be especially interested in sustainable aquaculture and restoration of coral-reefs. Enthusiastic scuba-diver here :)

Thanks! I’m studying marine systems & restoration, so that’s right up my alley. And I’ve been wanting to get into scuba for ages - would love to see anything you have to share on it! :D

Rare to see someone get into such a field of study and not be a scuba diver already 😄

Just put aside some 1 week holiday, maybe try to convince a friend or significant other to join you and do a basic scuba course.

You can of course also do a course locally, but those tend to drag on for a long time and diving in a pool is not very motivating.

Being a flat broke college kid hours from the sea put a bit of a damper on my plans to get started with it 😅

But I’m hoping this summer will afford me a good opportunity.
