The Florida legislature approved a bill this month that would further limit local civilian police oversight boards by barring them from investigating allegations of police misconduct. Police unions support the bill as a measure to protect the rights of officers, though critics say it represents yet another blow to police accountability efforts already shackled by existing state laws giving cops extraordinary legal protections.

“They’re making it seem un-American to question policing, which should be a huge red flag to everybody,” said Taylor Biro, a former member of Tallahassee’s police oversight board. “It is another way of showing how far to the right Florida wants to be seen."

Oof. What bigger red flag do you need?

In Florida? Shit. If “Don’t Say Gay” didn’t tell you what you needed to know, and the appointment of a vaccine denialist in the top public health job was too inscrutable, if you didn’t know shit about the russian mafia hold on Miami or why trump lives there or how the 2000 election went down - then you’re just not gonna get it.
