    Slavery was always inefficient compared to just paying starvation wages and leaning on immigration to replenish the labor pool. Using inmates is a win/win as you still get to pay starvation wages, but now you don’t even have to worry about work-place organization, caring and feeding, and it’s constitutionally protected.

    Wow, did not expect Bloomberg to report on this. At any rate brace for all the comments decrying the end of modern civilization if we actually stopped slavery.

    America enshrined slavery in the constitution. Why would corporations not take advantage of it? It’s the whole reason for the privatization of the prisons.
