I used to work in HR at one of the largest employers in my country. Layoffs, work force adjustments, rescinding of telework, negative things in general are purposefully picked to be given on Fridays or before holidays.

The theory is that by doing so, you minimize risk to the company. If they commit suicide, they do so on the weekend or during the holidays, off of work time and not close enough that a judge would deem it on work time.

Secondly, weekends or just before the holidays supposedly allows employees to seek out support to potentially avoid a risk to the company (like I mentioned above).

Thirdly, weekends or just before the holidays allows a period of time for supposed emotional cooling, which lowers risks to the company of the employee sabotaging their work, undermining anything, or creating security incidents.

I’ve always had issues with docker, especially when running it on a proxmox vm. I get weird network issues where when docker runs, the whole vm is cut off from network access (but my docker containers have internet). I also have problems with updates. Maybe it’s the whole virtual-ception of it all, a vm running docker running an application.

So far I’ve been getting by with running containers for every service (or VMs when I needed a gui since command line for certain things is tough.

I don’t like the idea of a single large server. If a node fails, everything goes tits up. If I have multiple nodes and one fails, my other services have zero downtime.

Convince me otherwise - I don’t work in this industry I teach boomers how to use MS Word haha.

In 2004 one of my computer games came with a couple of Star Trek demos.

There was Star Trek Armada, a real time strategy where you command a fleet of starships and mine dilithium and protect against waves or borg cubes as you built more units and buildings. Probably the very first real time strategy I had ever played. Spent a good chunk of my summer playing that. It only came with one level (Premonitions) which I played every which way.

The second demo game was Star Trek Hidden Evil, an isometric puzzle adventure third person game where you played as Ensign Sobok and had to find Captain Picard, who has been trapped by some clan at an excavation site. There were some invisible dudes that would ambush you so you had to fire at them quickly with the phaser.

Those were my first and happiest memories with Star Trek

I have family in Israel and have been there several times. I liked it there. I liked how all the signs were trilingual and the food was excessively good. I don’t however approve of the Israeli government or how they’ve gone about this conflict.
