If you mean that a thread claims to have more comments than visible… yeah that seems to be a common issue. Ever since 0.17.x there have been a lot of UI bugs. I think if there are edits to federated comments those edits are counted as new comments in the over-view, but so far this bug hasn’t been fixed @nutomic@lemmy.ml
Click your profile -> settings -> languages and highlight the languages that you want to see plus “Undetermined”. My guess is that you don’t have undetermined set at the moment which means that you can’t see a lot of comments.
Could also be from users of unfederated instances, right? like Lemmygrad?

It could also be because some comments are written in languages that you havent enabled, or are otherwise hidden (blocked users, bot accounts).

Pinging users doesn’t work on Lemmy as far as I know.
It works in comments, but not (yet) in posts.
Thanks for clearing this up. Here’s your answer @poVoq@slrpnk.net
Hmm. It used to work at least. Maybe this was changed?
I’m not sure. Feel free to test it out in /c/chat. You can try to ping me if you want.

😁Fixed! Hooray! Thank you!
Awesome and no worries :)
