  • Trump’s election was a bad day for us non-Americans as well, don’t worry. However, let’s not forget to look to the positive as well. UK has finally stopped with populism as well as Poland. A coup attempt was thwarted in South Korea as we speak. And while I am anxious of my own country (France) as today the government is likely to be dismissed, and that the far right is in the starting blocks, the fight still goes on.

I too think that social networks are one of the most crucial tools to build a society of tomorrow and in a more immediate sense to fight fascism. It has been hard to see the exodus from Twitter to Blusky which I think will probably go the same way as Twitter did. But it is hard to criticize it too harshly as leaving Twitter is a very urgent thing that should have been done the day before yesterday.

Nothing much to add to your post. Hang on, take care and make sure to tell us when we can participate and donate to help this server.

To all the US friends, we know that not every US citizen is a Trump fan. But please resist as much as you can. Don’t get complacent. Don’t think it will just go away. Half of the US population is fine with Trump. Even more if you count all those that didn’t care enough to vote. Resistance can be about buying guns, but it’s also about cultural battles.

During World War II, French resistance had a motto: Résister, c’est créer. Créer, c’est résister.

Resistance is an act of creation and acts of creation are resistance. The most effective and the most motivating way to resist is in building the society we should have and not the mere compromise that existed while fascists were a bit under 50% of the votes.

  • They mention Mondragon in the past tense but the organization is still alive and growing.

The bank mentioned still kind of exist, after several mergers: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laboral_Kutxa

On a side note, you will find a lot of the names around Mondragon do not have a spanish-sounding name. That’s because this from the Basque country, whose language is pretty disconnected from its neighbors as it is suspected to be one of the only remnants of a pre-indo-european language (end of the linguisitic geek parenthesis)

Generally speaking, the problem people face with loans vs investors is that bank loans are harder to get and are usually far more risk-adverse. In the startup-crazed scene, investors are seeing their funds as bet money. They are uninterested in 10% return, they prefer a “go big or go bust” attitude. They target different projects.

Startups have tended to dominate all the talks about entrepreneurship and funding, but regular small scale, small growth or even no-growth companies are still out there.
