The logic flaws are obvious when you flip the coin too.

The ACAB crowd and the “why do you need a gun?” crowd have a large overlapping percentage.

I personally agree with the entire left side of this meme. I feel that I am a minority though.

Never forget that gun control was a concept proliferated by a Republican (good ol’ Ronny Reagan) to prevent minorities from arming themselves (the Black Panthers) against corrupt police. (LAPD and LASD)

That’s me, because I’m British. I don’t need the cops NOR a gun to defend myself. Because no one else has a gun, which is the kind of situation I suspect most “you dont need a gun” leftists are arguing for.

In addition the entire premise is resting on the assumption that you will actually be able to do anything with a gun. In reality the thefts will happen when you are not at home, and statistically speaking having a gun during a robbery makes it more likely that you yourself get hurt.

Of course having guns for other reasons can make sense, but not in the case that the OP meme stipulates.

It’s pretty funny, honestly, the gun haters assume anyone that believes in the 2A is an unhinged psycho that wants suitcase nukes to be legal and the people who do want suitcase nukes without a license assume anyone talking about gun control is advocating a total ban.

In my personal experience, most of the ACAB crowd I know are pro 2a. Granted, most of the ACAB crowd I know are very far left, and believe that arming minorities is important to prevent them from being pushed around by the state. They also support abolishing the police, and a minor part of that mindset is focused around self defense.

I think the divide falls moreso within the Abolish the Police vs (De)fund/reform the Police crowd.

I’m no maga type but I am a 2nd amendment supporter and I would tell you to never call the cops. There’s no situation they can’t make worse. I watch a few cop accountability/transparency channels and man do cops hate the 1st and 4th amendments.

I’m not an american, but I think calling the cops can be usefull with some smaller problems, like if some kid steals something from you. They’re mostly usefull for intimidation tho. But overall the cops in my country aren’t that bad, but when someone breaks into your house you just don’t have the time to wait for the cops.

My car got stolen, the only reason we called the cops is because the insurance said we had to.

Then we got the police report, apparently the cops saw the car zoom past them at twice the speed limit with a broken window. So gave chase, in which the perps went high speed through a suburban area, crashed into someone’s property, destroying a fence, gave chase on foot but didn’t want to follow them into an abandoned building, and then, when two people dressed similarly emerged from the building, couldn’t do anything because they weren’t sure it was the same people.

Literally how the guards work in Skyrim.

So they actively made the situation worse, delayed the insurance process by destroying the car more, (twice as then we had to wait for the second report) endangered others, destroyed more property, and then didn’t do anything to help in the end.

It would’ve been entirely better to just have insurance deal with it and not involve the police at all.

        I’m not an american,

        That’s the thing.

When you call the police in the United States there is a very real chance they’ll kill whoever you call them to punish. And a smaller but nonzero chance they’ll kill you or an innocent third party.

Not because the police are all inherently evil. But because they’re heavily armed, and policing in a country that’s also heavily armed, and that makes every police encounter more dangerous for everyone than it is in a country with rational gun laws.

US cops are trained to consider their lives at risk every time they go out on a call, and they are ready and willing to shoot to protect themselves. So if they’re threatened - or they feel threatened - they may shoot instead of de-escalate.

So before you call the police in the US you have to ask yourself: is whatever just happened - theft, trespassing, vandalism, whatever - worth someone’s life to punish?

in a country with rational gun laws

This kinda sounds like you’rr anti gun rights, which is fair enough considering the crime rate in your country, but if that’s the case I have to dissapoint you, your lawmen got more problems than guns.

I live in austria and the only requirement here to buy a repeater, bolt-action rifle and double barrel shotgun are:

          • you have to be 18
          • you aren’t on the no guns list
          • you have a secure storage for your gun (like a safe or armored locker)
          • you have to wait 2 weeks

You can 100% get sued for intentionally shooting someone in a leg and causing them disability. If you really believe your life is in danger you should be shooting center mass which is what they train you in concealed carry classes. I tend to carry mostly in bear country, but if I had to shoot someone out in the woods who was attacking me, can’t say I would tell anybody. They’d never find them.

Some of us are pretty damn far left. ACAB and 2A go together like hand and glove. Armed minorities, be they POC or queer are harder to push around and abuse, both for cops and bigots who think they are vigilante superheroes. Fascism needs its populace disarmed as well. I’d love to live in a world where I was safe unarmed, but I have drawn in self defense against both man and beast. Arm up, comrades, and train. Know the rules and your rights.

Fucking numerology. Now someone is going to count up the words or letters or spaces or the number of times I use the letter “e” and say that because there are 13 spaces and 12 "e"s or 21 words, I must be dog-whistling “all cops are bastards”.

The easiest way to avoid being accused of dog whistling it is to just whistle it.

Damn, I miscounted. I was so sure that I had 21 "e"s, the same number of characters as in the phrase “all cops are bastards.” I guess adding the period to make it a sentence “fixes” it. :) (assuming I’m not still counting incorrectly)

Anyway, that should only highlight the silliness of numerological analysis.
