For those who didn’t read the article no, he wasn’t charged for being a misogynist incel. He was charged for plotting a mass murder.

Genco wrote in his manifesto that his goal was, “the death of what I have been deprived of most, but also cherished and fantasize at the opportunity of having but has been neglected of; Women. I will slaughter out of hatred, jealousy, and revenge.”

Because he is misogynist incel, but that is not a crime. Just like being racist is not a crime, but planing a race based murder spree is. The title is giving context to his motivation for planning a crime instead of simply listening “man accused of planning murder and hate crime”.

Yeah why not title it to be “misogynist incel commits mass murder gets arrested”? Instead of accidentally getting people to think he go arrested for being a misogynistic incel.

That’s not the title of the article because he was arrested before he could carry out his plot. You should take a minute or two to actually read the article because that’s a basic detail you don’t seem to be aware of.

Exactly. It really bums me out to realize just how poor reading comprehension skills are on Lemmy - and by extension- the general public.

Things would be a lot easier if people actually read articles before they started whining about the headline.

9 times out of 10 when someone’s in the comment section complaining about “misleading” headlines what they’re actually upset about is the fact that the headline doesn’t contain the entire fucking article.

For those who didn’t understand the article, yes, he was charged with a hate crime for the misogyny part of the plot.

Man, even as fucked up as we teens were in the 80s, we didn’t have incels. Anyone talking like that would have been shunned, at the least. They simply wouldn’t have a voice, let alone echo chambers to back them up.

We absolutey had incels. They were just as angry, but they included society in general for their problems and trash talked women, they just didn’t have the focused echo chambers we have today that let them run the mental gymnastics that placed so much blame on women. They didn’t have the incel label to wrap around themselves. They more or less became shut-ins living at home getting drunk and/or stoned, so yeah, they absolutely were shunned.

If you take a few minutes and actually think about your high school and the few years following I bet you’ll remember a few people that fit the bill.

For some reason killing a bunch of people because incel rage hadn’t entered the zeitgeist; even though workplace shootings did happen they weren’t remotely on the scale of mass shootings we have today.

This is simply not true, the thing is back then not every single sensationalist story got past local.

They weren’t called incels at the time because that word wasn’t created yet, but every school had that strange kid that would do incel-y behaviors.

Which is funny because Zack did a hell of a lot more incel-like behaviors, but because he’s handsome he gets a pass.

Always wondered WTF about Americans just wanting to make an excuse to do a massive shotting of any bullshit…

Good that punk got out of the streets, but really? Having so much reasons to do a massive shotting and some people planning to do it cos women rejected them? LMAO.

I know you can buy guns but are not they supposed to be for self-protect?

Can’t imagine living in a constant fear of being caught in a massive shotting.

You keep saying mass-shot and it makes me think you’re talking about using buckshot or birdshot in a shotgun.

Can’t imagine living in a constant fear of being caught in a mass-shot.

We don’t though. If you live near one, you might be a bit spooked for a few weeks or months, but eventually, it goes away and you stop thinking about it.

It’s like someone from Germany hearing there was a shooting in Portugal. That’s terrible, but not really that close to me, not in my state. You just deal with it and go on. Overall the risk of being in a car accident fatality is way higher than the risk of being shot, and there are more cars on the road than ever.

Do you understand what a hate crime is? What do you think is relevant to someone being charged with a federal hate crime? Please be specific.

Federal. The Atlanta Spa shooter was charged under Georgia’s hate crime law. I can assure you, the SPLC knows what they’re talking about. Studying and reporting on hate crimes/groups is their whole “thing.”

He wasn’t sentenced under hate crime laws though. He plead guilty to simple murder charges.

N.B. it might still happen in Fulton.

I donate all the sensitivity and offense I might have about your post to the sensitivity and offense that is needed to be summoned in response to that ghoul of a human being who plotted to murder a ton of women. Multiplied by all the downvotes. Wanna be mad? Throw that mad at him. Thumbs up to the FBI for catching his ass.

Exactly. Rape isn’t funny when you’re talking about taking someone’s innocence because of the unbearable trauma it inflicts on the victim, but fuck this guy. He literally had plans to slaughter multiple woman for just being woman and because they wouldn’t fuck him. Now he’s going to get fucked, but not in the manner he wanted.

I can’t believe how many people are so sensitive about this but I’m loving the downvotes. Who the fuck cares what happens to this piece of shit? Clearly, lots of Lemmings who likely never experienced extreme trauma nor do they know someone who did. If you take away someone life and/or innocence, you deserve the worst life has to offer.
