The article seems to focus mainly on “backyard” birds that eat seeds, insects, etc. so predatory birds (like hawks, owls, etc), foxes, snakes, coyotes will probably take a hit. The populations of other things the predators eat will also be stressed since they will be hunted and consumed more frequently when there is less variety.

yeah. i dont have any hope were gonna do anything about climate change at all. sure we might make some changes, people might drive evs for example which will help some. but largely those choices will be like changing the curtain the the titan sub, meaningless. this last two weeks shouldve seen governments around the world springing to action to stop climate change and… nothing. scientist have been warning us whats happening would happen and we just kept on keeping on.

I hate to break it to you, but this isn’t stupidity or general selfishness. The bad guys won as far as climate is concerned; the only people with the power to stop climate change are the corporate CEOs and the ultra-wealthy investors. Individuals can’t make a difference even if we acted uniformly, because over 50% of carbon emissions are corporate in origin and people need stuff to do things. Things. You know, like their jobs. Commuting to work or eating food you can afford, short term nescessities, is more important on a personal basis than long term goals because if you die today, you don’t get to see tomorrow. We’re trapped and there’s no way around it… except maybe to kill the rich.

So stop blaming your neighbours for ruining the climate. They had no choice in the matter and the ones who ACTUALLY did this damn well know it.

To bring a bit of hope, things can revert quite quickly too.

I’ve seen a study on a farmer who stopped using pesticide and started using permanent ground cover plants with their crops. In a year the amount of insect biodiversity at ground level was crazy. From almost zero to almost normal. There is no doubt that birds will quickly follow.
